The Uganda Birding program is a joint effort between conservation and wildlife organizations, tourism and guide associations and is led by the Uganda Tourism Board and supported by USAID through STAR (Sustainable Tourism in the Albertine Rift). The program is intended to link visitors to some of Uganda’s most unique birding destinations and through its’ efforts promote conservation and employment for Ugandans. The partners include:
Uganda Tourism Board (UTB)
For over 15 years the Uganda Tourism Board has served the country in ensuring the success and growth of tourism in Uganda. This has been in conjunction with the Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry since its inception. The world over, the board is marketing and promoting the Pearl of Africa, its true nature, culture, wildlife, accommodation, and hospitality all packed in a country that is “Gifted by Nature.”
USAID-STAR
The USAID-STAR (Sustainable Tourism in the Albertine Rift) Program is supported by USAID-Uganda and implemented by the Global Sustainable Tourism Alliance (GSTA). This program seeks to reduce threats to biodiversity by addressing constraints in the tourism sector, reducing limitations for local entrepreneurs in developing tourism businesses, enhancing marketing efforts, and improving linkages between local, national, and global value chains.
Nature Uganda
NatureUganda (NU) is the branch of the East Africa Natural History Society (EANHS) in Uganda. EANHS was set up in 1909 and thus the oldest conservation organization in East Africa. It started as a scientific organization with the primary aim of documenting the diversity of wildlife in East Africa. NU is now the leading membership-based conservation organization in Uganda championing the protection of birds and their habitats.
Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA)
Ugandan Wildlife Authority is charged with conserving, sustainably managing and economically developing natural resources in partnership with neighboring communities and other stake holders for the benefit of the people of Uganda and the global community. UWA is in charge of management of 10 National Parks, 12 Wildlife Reserves, 14 Wildlife Sanctuaries and provides guidance for 5 Community Wildlife Areas.
Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO)
The Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO) is Uganda’s leading tourism trade association, representing the interests of the countries leading and experienced professional tour operators. Members offer a range of services which can be broadly divided into the following categories: special interest safaris, air safaris, incentive travel group safaris, custom travel safaris for individual travelers and camping safaris (luxury or budget).
